Design
This is Xinzuo's honest workhorse bunka. A 440C core is forge-clad between two layers of softer stainless, ground to a 210 mm blade with a flat belly and a sharp reverse-tanto tip. The handle is a symmetrical black G10 scale — no bolster theatre, no wood to fuss over. It reads as a tool, not a showpiece, and the fit and finish is tight for the price.
Edge retention
440C at 60 HRC is a solid pick for a working bunka — harder than the 1.4116 in Xinzuo's entry lines and much easier to sharpen than a powder steel. Expect weeks between touch-ups with daily home use, quick refreshes on a ceramic rod, and full sharpening on a 1000/6000 stone every few months. It won't hold like SG2 or M390, but it also doesn't cost like SG2 or M390.
Ergonomics
The 210 mm blade length gives the bunka plenty of board coverage, while the flat belly and reverse-tanto tip make it natural for push cuts and precise tip work. The G10 handle is neutral for either hand and stays grippy through wet mise en place, and the balance sits right at the bolster area for a comfortable pinch grip. It's a knife that gets out of your way.
Value
At around $79 shipped this is a strong pick for anyone who wants a real 210 mm bunka without stepping up to $150+. The one caveat, as with most Xinzuo, is a slightly thick grind behind the edge — ten minutes on a stone thinning it and this cuts like a knife twice its price. If you want a versatile Japanese-style blade or a beater to live alongside a nicer knife, it's an easy recommendation.
