Cons
- −Factory grind is still a touch thick behind the edge — benefits from thinning

Design
The Ji Series 8.3" bunka is Xinzuo's mid-tier flagship — a 210 mm blade with a nearly flat belly and a sharp reverse-tanto tip that gives you nakiri-style push cuts plus a precise point for detail work. The blade is a 12Cr18MoV core sandwiched between 33 layers of Damascus per side; the pattern is tight and consistent, not the exaggerated ripple you see on cheaper knives. The handle pairs stabilized ebony scales over black G10 liners, giving you the warm feel of real wood without the seasonal movement of pure wood.
Edge retention
12Cr18MoV run at HRC 60±2 is one of the more sensible stainless picks in this bracket: hard enough to hold a fine 15°-per-side edge for weeks of home use, forgiving enough to touch up on a ceramic rod without micro-chipping. Expect a stropping every couple of weeks and a full stone session every few months. It won't hold like SG2 or M390, but it sharpens twice as fast on any stone you already own.
Ergonomics
At 210 mm this is the classic bunka sweet spot — long enough to break down a cabbage in one stroke, short enough to control on a small board. The ebony/G10 handle sits neutrally in either hand, and the balance point falls right at the bolster area for a comfortable pinch grip. The spine and choil are rounded properly, so long prep sessions don't leave hot spots on your index finger.
Value
At around $95 shipped this competes with sub-$200 Japanese Damascus bunkas, and the fit and finish holds up to the comparison. You're paying for real Damascus cladding, a hard 60 HRC core, and a genuine ebony handle. The one caveat, as with most factory grinds in this bracket, is that the edge is a bit thick shoulder-behind — twenty minutes on a stone thinning it and this becomes a knife that punches well above its price bracket.
