Design
The Zhi Series paring knife is a no-nonsense little blade — a 75 mm flat-ground stainless blade with a fine, upswept tip and a symmetrical pakka wood handle. There's no Damascus, no bolster, no showpiece finish. It's a working paring knife that costs about the same as a good sandwich, and at that price the restraint is the right call.
Edge retention
The stainless core is in the same family used by most European paring knives — soft by Japanese standards but tough, stain-resistant, and dead simple to sharpen. A few strokes on a ceramic rod or a medium stone bring it right back. For a knife that's going to live in a fruit bowl or get tossed in a picnic bag, that's the right compromise.
Ergonomics
The 111 mm pakka handle balances neatly with the small blade and is neutral for either hand — grippy when wet, comfortable in a full grip for peeling apples or in a pinch grip for hulling strawberries. The short blade is long enough to core a tomato and short enough to work in-hand around fruit without feeling clumsy.
Value
At $32 shipped this is an easy add-on to a Xinzuo chef knife order. It won't out-cut a $90 Japanese petty, but it handily beats any supermarket paring knife and it's cheap enough to keep two — one for the kitchen, one for a picnic bag. A perfectly honest utility blade.
